Wisdom teeth growth can often be a painful and distressing experience for anyone. Wisdom teeth cause many people problems, and they feel they need treating and sometimes extracting completely.

In some cases wisdom teeth may not need to be extracted and can be managed and treated without the need for a surgical option. Although if the wisdom teeth become a problem and erupt in a disorderly fashion, and start to impact on the teeth around the wisdom teeth, this can cause more complex problems, and the need for extraction becomes the only option.

In most cases people start to develop their wisdom teeth or third molars between the ages of 17 and 24, but they can occur at any time after this also. The reason that wisdom teeth cause many people problems is that there is not enough room in the jaw to support them fully, so they start to grow sideways and into the other teeth around them, which can lead to unbearable toothache and more complex teeth problems for the surrounding teeth as well as the wisdom teeth.

Wisdom teeth can cause gum disease, infection, cyst development, and even in some cases tumours, if they do not erupt properly and become interrupted. If you are experiencing facial swelling, severe toothache at the back of your mouth or intense pain that can also radiate to the ears and/or throat, then this can be because of wisdom teeth.

With wisdom teeth removal, if that is what your dentist decides is the best option for you, they will more than likely place you under IV sedation, this will prevent you from feeling little to no pain, leaving you happier and satisfied that this has been rectified while you have no recollection of the process undergone. If you feel that sedation dentistry isn’t for you there are other options for the treatment of your wisdom teeth, if you contact your dentist they will be more than happy to discuss these with you.

Everyone has gone through their life being told how important it is to take good care of your teeth, and how an optimum level of oral hygiene can lead to a better life. Now all this is true but as young children or adolescents most of them just disregard the advice that they have been given and take poor care of their teeth anyway.

But when they get older they realise that they should have taken notice as they can lead to expensive and painful dental treatments. This is where preventative dentistry can help.

Taking optimum care of your teeth can be a tough task even for the perfectionists amongst us. Your dentist recognises this and is here to help you set out a good oral health plan to keep on top of your oral care. Being able to stick to the saying that prevention is easier than the cure can sometimes be harder said than done within dental problems, and this is when your dentist can give you that push or guidance towards what you need.

In the event that problems do occur, which let’s be honest, sometimes cannot be avoided for example accidents, your dentist can help fix whatever has gone wrong.
There are a few things you should stick to within your oral healthcare these are brushing twice daily with a fluoride toothpaste, flossing once daily, avoiding tobacco products, avoiding excessive alcohol and changing your toothbrush every 3-4 months or after an illness.

If all of these rules or guidelines are adhered to then your oral healthcare along with regular checkups with your dentist should be as good as it can be.

Have you been suffering from intense toothache for a long time? Have painkillers not been solving any problems for you? The fact of the matter is it could be the decay of the root of your tooth, and this can cause serious problems for your teeth. And you will need to undergo root canal treatment to effectively stop the toothache and relieve you from pain.

Many tooth decay problems involve infections that spread from the inner chamber of the tooth containing blood vessels, nerves and other tissues. When this infection becomes worse, it starts to affect the root of the tooth. A traumatic injury to a tooth can also cause these problems.

Occasionally, the nerve in a tooth can die. This can cause an unbearable toothache that prevents you doing normal daily tasks. You can administer medication and this minimises your symptoms short term but the toothache and the state of your tooth will worsen unless the inflamed and dying nerve, is removed. Root canal is a way of removing the damaged nerve but at the same time saving the tooth.
The procedure entails that your dentist will make a small space within the tooth that is occupied by the nerve to extract the dying or decayed root. They will then clean and disinfect the part of the tooth and root that was damaged and then re-seal it so that there is no further complication to your tooth.

This treatment effectively saves the tooth, as the tooth does not require blood supply from the nerve, for its successful function. No longer should you have to suffer from toothache, consult your dentist today to see if you need root canal treatment.
